An Online Overhaul: Diving Back into Blogging

It recently struck me I haven't been on here in a hot minute, and I felt the urge to start writing again. I was shocked (and a bit embarrassed) to find that it had been over a year since my last post. How?! At that point, I had only been in my first library job for a couple of months whereas now I've been working in libraries for nearly two years. I went from library assistant to youth education coordinator to prison librarian (more on all that in another post), started my grad school classes, and as I settle into life as a grad student, I'm looking to make the most of this time by delving deeper into the things I learn and experience along the way. (Hence, my desire to return to this blog.)

I still have those first few posts saved in my drafts, and I plan on reformatting them into articles that will better serve any readers who come across them at a later point. However, the originals will stay tucked away in my drafts as I work to overhaul this blog into something a bit more presentable. What's the plan, you may ask?

For starters, we're getting this baby on a schedule. You can expect a post on here at least every other week (building up towards weekly posts as I gain better momentum again). I'll continue to write about my experiences along the way, but I also want to throw in thought pieces on issues affecting the field, deeper dives into interesting tidbits from class, internet resource roundups for current / future librarians, and more! At the time this post is published, I have other drafts waiting in the wings to help keep things on track (and avoid another year-long hiatus, haha).

Some topics that have been front-of-mind recently include graphic novels as learning tools, time management as a grad student + library worker, the struggle between keeping local funding in a conservative area vs. wanting to fully serve patrons of all backgrounds, and questioning which library traditions are helpful or harmful to keep around. With all this and more swirling around in my brain, I really am surprised I didn't come back to this blog sooner! Well, we can't change the past, but I'm excited for the future over here and hope you'll come along for the ride.

Till next time,

Sam
